Juventus have finally moved back into the European elite

Juventus have finally moved back into the European elite after several years of playing second fiddle to the likes of Inter Milan and AC Milan.

The team may have lost yet another Champions League final – to add to the growing list – but manager Massimiliano Allegri says that the team should have won the game against Barcelona last season.

Barcelona were able to get a slender victory in the final of the competition. Even though they were overwhelming favourites for the victory, Juventus brought out a tough fight. However, they were made to pay for their mistakes at the back coupled with the inability to take the chances.

Massimiliano Allegri was not seen as the fit contender to replace Antonio Conte when the former manager decided to leave the club just a few weeks before the start of the new season. However, he has come in and done a great job. Allegri won the Coppa Italia and the Italian Serie A title in his first season. Juventus were not able to complete the treble due to this defeat. Allegri has blamed silly mistakes from his team as being the reason for the loss. The rebuilding job begins at Turin with important players like Carlos Tevez and Andrea Pirlo having left the club.

“After we drew level they [Barcelona] were stunned and we showed signs of growth. I felt as though we were in control. Unfortunately they scored again, they were like an eel; we had them in our grip but then they slipped out of our hands. Their attacking trio are eels too, they are just impossible to stop. Meanwhile we were like battery chickens.Every moment is different in football and you cannot just play the same way over and over like on an assembly line. We must restore some freedom to the players,” said Allegri.
